created the first modern day bike-making it to travelling 140 miles per hour

PIERRI & ERNEST (his son) MICHAUX
invented the pedals of a bicycle.

JAMES CARROLL
took out the first patent in in the United States
1868-THE FIRST BICYCLE RACE WAS HELD!

JAMES STARLEY
designed a new bicycle with one large front wheel and one small back wheel.
WEIGHT:
45 pounds
for competition it was 20 pounds
Became most popular in 1882

H.J Lawson
created the first chain for a bicycle and two evenly size wheels
This was first manufactured but A.A Pope in 1893

The WRIGHT BROTHERS
opened one of the first bike shops (they used there knowledge of bicycles to later produce planes)
1909-FIRST 6 DAY BICYCLE RACE HELD IN BERLIN!

Bikes became more streamlined and efficient
